Tying a slip knot and slip knot rebozo hip carry should be easy but lots of mums and dads find it difficult. Hopefully these photos will show you how to do it step by step.
Suitable from birth and can be used in the tummy to tummy, or hip carry positions. Wrap used in photos Trageschule Sommer size 2. Baby Isaac is 9months old in photos. Bring wrap up over baby's back. 1/3 under bum, 1/3 supporting back and 1/3 supporting neck.
To remove slack grab top rail and bring to the knot. Then for first time you work with the inactive shorter tail by pulling slack through. Lift baby's weight to help remove resistance. Remove slack a bit at a time by working from top to bottom rail. Repeat as necessary until slack removed.
For babies without head control, fold the too rail over and place a place a rolled muslin here to create a padded head support.

There are not many things that I like getting in the post more than wraps. And I was delighted to be sent one of the new boba print wraps to review. I should state that I am a boba ambassador but all views are my own.
So, first impressions are it is bright. I know the normal boba wraps come in an array of colours but I loved the vibrancy of the stripes. Secondly the storage bag provides an excellent place to keep away from mucky hands and finally the instructions themselves are so clear that literally anyone could use this wrap. I am always sceptical with weight and you can use this wrap too suggestions but at 7 months old Isaac still has plenty of time left. Like with any stretchy wrap, the tighter you tie it in the beginning the more supportive it will be and longer it will last. So far this wrap has been to take the boys swimming, shopping and to walk techie dog. I have had lots of comments about how nice it looks and I have been delighted to get to play. Although a little long for me it is a good length for most people. Good job boba. We love it. With the to weather so dull, grey, cold and snowy I decided to brighten up the last few days with a photo of the day.
Here are a selection? What is your favourite parenting quote or phrase? Do you have a favourite photo? When I started the North East Sling Library I was simply an enthusiastic amateur. I had learnt my skills through carrying my son and wanted to pass them to to other parents. There were no sling meets or other sling libraries within 100 miles. Slings were a rare site. However it became clear to me that my knowledge could only go so far. I was going to have to train and get some form recognition and training.
So, what is the difference? What exactly is a Babywearing consultant? How are they different to a Peer supporter? Or the enthusiastic amateur I was when I established the library? There is currently no requirement to have any formal training to run a sling library and in recent months there has been a massive increase in the number of them in the UK. Most are run to allow people to try slings and are built often on the owners slings and experience. Most have some understanding of Babywearing safety and basic ways to carry your baby. Although no requirement for training sling libraries that take a fee, even if they make no income, must make a tax return and should have public liability insurance as a bare minimum. The law also means that you need to meet The Sale of Goods Act 1979 & Supply of Goods & Services Act 1982, and The Consumer Protection Act 1987. No set of terms and conditions, or waivers, remove the need to meet these criteria. Next are peer supporters. Babywearing UK offers a course designed for this purpose. Peer supporters are usually experienced sling users, but not all) and they are taught how to assist small groups. A Peer supporter supports, informs and shares experienc. Where as a Consultant teaches, assesses/troubleshoots and advises/recommends, and can direct to more experienced people. Consultants have more in depth training and as such can provide more personalised care. They are also taught and have understanding of physiology and anatomy and babies development. I trained with Trageschule UK in March 2012. More details about my training and consultancy can be found here. They are several Babywearing schools and in 2011 the British Association of Babywearing Instructors was founded. It is designed to have a set of shared guidelines for consultants to follow. It also provides access to Professional and Public Liability Insurance. A full list of spprived training schools and consultants can be found on their website (www.babi.me.uk). Consultants and peer supporters trained by Babywearing Uk can also access insurance but this is provided by different insurers. Consultants by the nature of their more professional training are able to charge for their services. One comparison I have been suggested was that a peer supporter is like a shop assistant who has a general grasp of the stock, whereas a personal shopper can tailor to individual needs. Fundamentally the difference is about the depth of understanding and training. They are stepped in level of knowledge and understanding. And after all Babywearing has been a skill traditionally passed from mother to daughter and person to person, consultants, peer supporters and enthusiasts all have this shared aim. The aim of the NESL is to offer independent information and advice about baby carriers and slings. The monies we raise buy more stock. We are open every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month between 9.30-12,, and every 2nd Saturday 2-4pm. Although not open on other days give me a ring on 07989 242664 if you know what you want to borrow and I will try my best to sort something. This is my day off from my day job so both Isaac (7months) and Henry (almost 3years) are about. I also have a dog who is very friendly but for the duration of the library session gets put in the lounge - ocassionally small people let him out.
The sling library also acts as a free drop in session, coffee meet, catch up and social. Where we talk lots about slings. The North East Sling Library allows you the opportunity to try out different types of carrier in order to find the one that is right for you. There is a lot to choose from and we believe this allows you the perfect opportunity to try before you buy. If the sling you have isn’t working, it’s the wrong sling. It isn’t because your baby is too big to be worn. Whether you are looking for a sling that you can use every day or have a special occasion or holiday in mind we are here to help. We don’t sell slings or carriers and we’re not affiliated with any retailer or manufacturer so offer completely independent advice. However, we have been lucky enough to received donations from a number of manufacturers and retailers (details in the thanks page) and are able to offer discount codes to some of these. We give you the information and help you need to get started with using a baby carrier free of charge, and have a collection of slings and carriers that are available to borrow for a small fee. It costs £5 (plus refundable deposit) to hire a baby carrier for approximately 2 weeks so that you can really see how it will work for you and your family. Deposits vary up to £100 and are to protect me against loss. I have only once kept a deposit. Most people pay them by cheque. Hope that answers people's questions. Anything else, shout! So 2012 is almost over and 2013 upon us. I just wanted to write a little thank you blog post.
2012 saw the library celebrate it's 1st birthday with a series of events. Me qualify as a Babywearing consultant and the rather quick birth of our own real life demo doll Isaac. We made 293 hires in 2012 and I completed 28 consultations. We have a library of 60 slings and currently 3 demo dolls. Recent stock shake up means new slings will arrive in the coming weeks. The toddler action baby carrier has just arrived. Thank you to Fiona Marsland and Sharon Campbell who give up there time freely to help at library sessions. I'm sure the cake has something to do with it. It is greatly appreciated and I could not help as many people as we do if it wasn't for your help. Your help was especially appreciated before Isaac was born when my back then pregnancy related illness made it hard for me to function properly. I look forward to 2013 and continuing to help make the library even better. I plan to organise more social events (1st two are arranged), get more slings, undertake further training, organise masterclasses snd crash courses and continue to offer 1:1 appointments even though I am back at work. So happy new year, may 2013 be joyous, stress free and enjoyable for everyone. Toddler carriers are something the sling library is always on the look out for. So I was delighted when I was given the opportunity to test the Toddler Action Baby Carrier.
A scaled up version of the standard ABC it provides a very comfortable ride, even when carrying Henry (35 months). It was more than knee to knee and the padding in waist and straps provided just the right level of support. Unlike lots of soft structured carriers the straps can be crossed when carrying in a front carry meaning there are no annoying chest belts to have to fasten. We tested it with 4 different aged toddlers. Ranging from 20 months to 3 years. The toddler ABC is designed for children up to 45lb (20.4kg). Henry weighs 15kg so even he has Lenny of growing room. If a sign of how much I like this carrier I have just purchased one for the sling library which fingers crossed will be as popular with library users as it is me. And it definitely gets the Henry deal of approval as he had now begun to resist being carried but on 2 occasions he has asked for "mummy's back", and gone and got this carrier. And I even managed to roll the waist and used in an emergency, it was the first sling to hand, scenario with 7 month old Isaac, who at 16lb comes just in over the 15lb minimum weight.

http://www.actionbabycarriers.co.uk/ Boo hiss, I have to go back to the day job. Unfortunately the consultancy doesn't pay the mortgage (as much as I would love it to) so my maternity leave ends on Monday 17th December and on Tuesday 18th December I return to my day job as a history teacher. But don't worry. Consultantions will still continue just with a little reworking. I will offer consultation appointments on a Tuesday from 3pm onwards. I have been doing them on the days when Henry has been at nursery so haven't had to worry about childcare. I will be able to do consultations on Monday's and non-sling library Wednesdays subject to being able to arrange childcare for Henry and now Isaac. I will therefore ask you to pay £5 extra for the appointment to cover childcare. I can also arrange evenings from 7pm onwards subject to my husband being available. I can also arrange appointments on Sunday mornings. The sling library will continue to run on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every month but please remember this is my 'day off', so both Isaac and Henry will be around and need my attention at times. So December is upon us and we are all starting to think of Christmas and spending some time with our loved ones. But this does effect the sling library in December.
We will be open for our Saturday slingy session on Saturday 8th December between 2-4 pm. More details of Saturday sessions are here http://thenortheastslinglibrary.weebly.com/1/post/2012/10/saturdayslinging.html We will also be open for our normal 2nd Wednesday of the month session on Wednesday 12th December 9.30-12 and 1-3. Sling hire will be extended until Wednesday 9th January. This is because the 4th Wednesday falls on Boxing Day. Because it is the festive season we will have mince pies and Christmas cake. However, Wednesday 9th January is Henry's 3rd birthday. As such I want to do something fun for him on the afternoon so the library will only be open until 12. If you cannot make the morning slings can be returned by special delivery post to Rachel Coy, 13 Brecken Way, Meadowfiekd, Durham, Dh7 8UZ to arrive on the morning of 9/1. Alternatively they be returned to the Saturday Slings Session on Saturday 12th January 2-4 but please tell me when you hire what you would prefer. We will however have birthday cake at the Wednesday session to help celebrate Henry's birthday. We will however be open as normal on Wednesday 23rd January as normal. Borrowed a sling from the library?
Want to buy your own but don't know where to start? Scared by the different for sale or trade markets? Worried about buying a fake? Well to help I am offering library users a 'sling finding service'. Set me a budget, give me some specifics and away I go. It will cost 10%* of final sale price, not including fees, for me to find the sling for you. In some cases onwards postage will need to be added if seller won't sell to third party and you can't make library to collect. I want every parent to have the right carrier for them and hope this will help even more parents to carry their babies big and small. Monies will then be reinvested into buying new stock. *hard to find wraps will be done negotiated individually. |
