As I start a new Durham cling meet, and due to family commitments it means I won't be attending Newcastle Sling Meet for the foreseeable future (at least October). I have attended Newcastle sling meet since its inception and was the first library to do so after being invited by the original organiser of the group. However, in the 2 years it has run things have changed. It is a long journey for me (approx. 2 hour round trip), other libraries and consultants go which means on some days I don't cover my costs of actually getting there, and having a 2 year old who wants me to play is not conducive to being productive.
My mission for NESL has not changed. I still want to help the North East to carry their babies big and small, but sometimes it is necessary to concentrate closer to home. I intend to keep making the sling library bigger and better, continue to train and to stay the best well known library, after all I did start a trend, but now just with a little refocus. In September my eldest starts school and my youngest is potentially increasing days at nursery/childminder so I should have more time for 1;1 appointments and workshops, as well as traditional library sessions, but now without distractions.
So what is happening and when? Well normal sling library drop in sessions will continue to run on 2nd and 4th Wednesday's of the month (including school holidays). Older children always welcome. Saturday Slings sessions will continue on 2nd Saturday. This one is the session which is most liable to change at short notice so please follow on facebook or twitter, or text 07989 242664 to check we are still on. |
