Last weekend I completed my advanced course with Trageschule UK. One of the units we covered on course was workshop planning and for me this was the most exciting bit as I already had arranged my first paid workshop.
I have run two master classes at the library and a workshop at the Natural Mamas Big Camp but these have been free to attend. To say I was nervous this morning was an understatement.
Last night I spent an hour making welcome packs for the attendees, planning what I would do and when, and packing my demo kits. This morning car loaded with a bag of ring slings, demo dolls, flip chart and illustrations I set off feeling very nervous. But I had a ball.
I want to thank the 4 mums, babies and a granny who came and made my first workshop worthwhile. The photos and thanks you have added to my Facebook group made my afternoon. Remember I am only a phone call away if you need anything else.
The workshop covered lots of areas to do with Babywearing and ring slings:
Babywearing and ring sling safety
Choosing a sling - fabric and shoulder styles
Preparing the fabric
Getting baby in sling and positioning
Getting baby out of sling
During the workshop participants had the opportunity to watch step by step demonstration before mirroring and then teaching each other. With the opportunity to practise each step many times.
Everyone who attended the workshop was also given a pack of information to take away with them, refreshments during class and the cost of class included 2 weeks hire of the ring sling of their choice.
The packs included a set of photo instructions, TICKS Babywearing safety guidelines, loyalty card, list of useful YouTube videos, feedback form and my contact details.
I want to say a massive thank you to Lyndsay of Fancy Dress for kids www.fancydresscostumesforkids.co.uk who let is use the event space in their newly created show room. Not only had she set the room up ready for us and let the little ones play on the display toys, she also provided biscuits too. We all love cake and biscuits. This helped ensure even our smallest participants were happy.
I really enjoyed the workshop and am already looking forward to planning more in the near future.
I am also happy to travel to run workshops if there are a number of you in one area, especially if you have a venue (Your home is fine) and book together.
